For weddings, I’m a photographer only, so couples wanting cinematic film should book a dedicated wedding cinematographer as well. I happily work alongside videographers and coordinate coverage so that all work complements each other on the day. For elopements, I shoot both photography and video, as the intimate scale suits a single shooter. Coverage spans Byron Bay, Bangalow, the Tweed, Ballina and the Northern Rivers.
Most weddings need eight to ten hours to run from getting ready through to the first hour of the reception. Elopements and small ceremonies need less. The honest test is where you want the story to stop: if the last frame is the first dance, you need less time than you think, and if you want the party, you need more.
Almost nobody is, and it is the most common thing couples say before booking. I work unobtrusively through the day and direct only where it helps, using simple prompts rather than posing. A short pre-wedding shoot is the fastest way to get comfortable, and it happens before the day rather than on it.
I back up every camera photo twice as I’m shooting, and nothing depends on one method surviving. I carry backup bodies and lenses to every wedding. In the event of illness or emergency, I work within a network of Northern Rivers photographers who can step in, and the contract sets out exactly what happens. I carry public liability cover of $5 million, and I supply a certificate of currency to venues on request.
I price wedding coverage per package rather than by the hour, and every package is a fixed quote with deliverables and dates in writing before booking. Pricing varies with hours, image count and location.
